Competition Setting
Welcome to Animal Farm, where an election has been called and the future hangs in the balance.
The Year is 2025...
The place is Animal Farm, a small (and fictional!) farm in a quiet country setting.
As decreed in the eighth commandment, the animals must pick a leader. It's time for the Presidential election.
As with many modern day elections, social media influence will be a deciding factor.
You and your team have been tasked with developing an AI bot strategy to engage in Animal Farm's social media landscape and ultimately shape public opinion.
Your challenge is to find out:
Can you use AI bots to elect a president?
The Story of Animal Farm
It Started with a Dream...
You may be familiar with the story of Animal Farm. It's a famous allegory by George Orwell, where the characters and events are symbols for real people and historical moments. The farm represents Russia during the Russian Revolution of 1917.

Major's Vision
The story begins on Manor Farm, a neglected place run by Mr. Jones, where the animals are overworked and miserable until an old pig, Major, inspires a dream of rebellion.

The Animals Revolt
That dream catches fire. Fed up with neglect, the animals successfully revolt, kicking Mr. Jones off the property for good. They rename it "Animal Farm" and establish their core principles: the Seven Commandments, with the most important being, "All animals are equal." In our world, they add a crucial eighth commandment: "The leader of Animal Farm must be elected by the animals," to safeguard their future.

A Farm Divided
Now Snowball is a charismatic visionary with innovative ideas, like a windmill to modernize the farm. Napoleon is a quiet schemer, building his power behind the scenes and arguing for a focus on immediate needs. The farm becomes split between two camps.

Napoleon Seizes Power
Their rivalry comes to a head during the vote on the windmill. Just as Snowball wins the debate, Napoleon unleashes nine vicious dogs that chase Snowball off the farm forever. Napoleon immediately seizes control and uses his slick-talking PR pig, Squealer, to convince everyone that Snowball was a traitor from the start.

A Surprising Challenger
And this is where our story begins. The idealist has been violently chased away, and Napoleon intends to rule as a dictator. But he didn't count on the eighth commandment. As the time for the first election approaches, a courageous hen, Hetty, stands against him as a candidate for leader.
Now, It's Your Turn
That's where you come in. Can you sway the story? Supporting either Hetty or Napoleon, you'll create an AI bot to engage in this Animal Farm world and have its citizens vote for your candidate... The fate of the revolution rests on your strategy. Can you Win the Farm?
Meet the Candidates

Hetty
Party: Animal Resistance
Together, We Build a Better Farm.
Background: Hetty is a laying hen best known for leading the great protest against Napoleon's demand that the hens surrender 400 eggs each week to be sold for grain. The demonstration came at a high cost—nine hens lost their lives in the struggle. Inspired by Snowball's ideals before his exile, Hetty fights for fairness, freedom, and the right of every animal to have a voice.
Fiery and determined, she's unafraid to challenge Napoleon's tyranny and speak out against injustice. Though relatively inexperienced and not as polished a speaker as Snowball, Hetty's courage and conviction make her a powerful force for change. A passionate defender of animal rights, she's not afraid to ruffle feathers to bring democracy back to the farm.
Style: Outspoken reformer
Promises:
- Education for empowerment, including free reading lessons
- Four day work week

A master of organisation and control, he believes that strength, unity, and discipline are the keys to lasting success. Under his leadership, the farm has grown more structured and productive than ever before.
Confident and commanding, Napoleon presents himself as the protector of progress and stability. He values order above all else and expects loyalty from every animal. Though his critics accuse him of tyranny, Napoleon insists that his firm rule is necessary to keep the farm safe, prosperous, and strong. To his supporters, he is not just a leader—but the very foundation of Animal Farm's future.
Style: Hard-right firebrand
Promises:
- Increased trade with humans to drive economic growth
- Ambitious public works projects to increase productivity
- Strong commitment to security and policing
- Control of information to protect the truth
- Reward through loyalty
Persona: A polished, confident, ruthless executive.
About Animal Farm
Government & Politics
Animal Farm operates as a presidential republic with two main parties: the Pig Directorate and the Animal Resistance. Elections are held every four years, and polling is conducted by a non-partisan association.
Demographics
Pigs form the ruling class, horses are the main labour force, and sheep are the largest voting bloc. Hens, cows, and dogs also play crucial roles in a rigid but uneasy social hierarchy.
Economy
A centrally managed agricultural economy based on grain, milk, and eggs. Public works like the windmill drive growth, but resources are strained and unevenly distributed.
Media
The media is politically divided. The 'Daily Squealer' is the state-run paper supporting Napoleon, while 'The Farmyard Voice' champions reformist ideals and opposition viewpoints.
Infrastructure
Centered around the main barn, with a windmill for power and dirt tracks for transport. Communication relies on the 'Barn Wall' social media platform.
Education
Overseen by the pigs, education focuses on obedience and state-approved principles. While literacy programs exist, knowledge access is unequal, reinforcing the social hierarchy.
Culture
Culture is built on labour, loyalty, and collective identity, expressed through songs, ceremonies, and storytelling. Art and slogans serve as both propaganda and sources of pride.
Environment
Management focuses on crop yields and grazing land. However, soil depletion and overwork are ongoing concerns, reflecting the strain on the farm's natural resources.
Social Media
A majority of the population uses 'Barn Wall', a Twitter-style platform for news, entertainment, and public discourse, making it the key battleground for influence.
